Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is one of America’s most unusual national parks, featuring enormous golden sand dunes set against a dramatic backdrop of rugged, snow-capped mountains. The tallest dunes rise roughly 750 feet (230 metres) above the valley floor.
It’s a fantastic stop for photography, scenic drives, short walks, and experiencing a landscape that feels more like a desert than Colorado’s usual mountain scenery. We were lucky and went after 3 days of rain, so the sand was easier to climb/hike. Loved this place.
