The Firth of Forth is the large estuary immediately north of Edinburgh, where the River Forth meets the North Sea. It stretches inland toward Stirling and is one of Scotland’s most scenic waterways.
- 🌉 Forth Bridge – the spectacular red railway bridge completed in 1890 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s probably the most famous landmark on the Firth.
- 🌉 Forth Road Bridge – the older road bridge alongside it.
- 🌉 Queensferry Crossing – the modern suspension bridge, completed in 2017.
- 🏘️ South Queensferry – attractive historic waterfront town with excellent views of all three bridges.
- 🏝️ Islands of the Forth – including Inchcolm, with its medieval abbey and wildlife.
- 🐦 Wildlife – the Firth is particularly good for seabirds, seals and other marine wildlife.
- 🚤 Boat trips – cruises from South Queensferry provide excellent views of the bridges and islands.
