Custer is a small town in the Black Hills of southwestern South Dakota and an excellent base for exploring the region’s mountains, wildlife, scenic drives, and famous national monuments. It’s a particularly good stop if you’re planning to visit Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park and Badlands National Park.
We were there in October which is off season, so it was not crowded, however, many of the stores and restaurants were closed.
