Canyonlands National Park, Needles District, Utah

The Needles District is one of the most striking (and less crowded) sections of Canyonlands National Park, known for its colorful sandstone spires, remote feel, and excellent hiking.

  • Named for the “needles”—tall, thin red-and-white rock spires
  • More lush than other parts of the park (juniper, cottonwoods, even seasonal water)
  • Far fewer crowds than Island in the Sky
  • Incredible mix of short walks + long backcountry routes

We loved it here, but it is a good 90 minutes from Moab, so it is a full day outing.

Well worth the visit.

Wilson Arch is a great quick stop on the way to or from the Needles District, between the park and Moab.
