Batalha is a small town in central Portugal, famous for the spectacular Batalha Monastery (Mosteiro da Batalha).

Batalha Monastery – a masterpiece of Portuguese Gothic architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. ⚔️ Why it was built: King João I commissioned it to celebrate Portugal’s victory over Castile at the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385.
