Banff, Alberta

Banff is one of Canada’s best-known mountain destinations, located inside Banff National Park. It’s famous for turquoise lakes, rugged peaks, abundant wildlife, and year-round outdoor activities.

Banff is a good place for a base, although we stayed in Canmore just 20 minutes south. This is the jumping off point for so many great attractions including:

  • Lake Louise – Known for its vivid blue water, mountain backdrop, and canoe rentals in summer.
  • Moraine Lake – A stunning glacier-fed lake in the Valley of the Ten Peaks. Access is seasonal and typically requires a shuttle or tour.
  • Banff Gondola – Ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain for panoramic views and a scenic boardwalk.
  • Bow Falls – A short walk from downtown with impressive views.
  • Johnston Canyon – Popular for waterfalls, catwalks, and hiking.
  • Icefields Parkway – One of the world’s most scenic drives, connecting Banff and Jasper.
