The Needles District is one of the most striking (and less crowded) sections of Canyonlands National Park, known for its colorful sandstone spires, remote feel, and excellent hiking.
- Named for the “needles”—tall, thin red-and-white rock spires
- More lush than other parts of the park (juniper, cottonwoods, even seasonal water)
- Far fewer crowds than Island in the Sky
- Incredible mix of short walks + long backcountry routes
We loved it here, but it is a good 90 minutes from Moab, so it is a full day outing.

Wilson Arch is a great quick stop on the way to or from the Needles District, between the park and Moab.
