Ston

Ston, Croatia, is a charming town on the Pelješac Peninsula. It’s known for its historic significance, particularly the impressive defensive walls and ancient saltworks. We stopped here for lunch to see and walk some of the walls. If you are passing by, they are impressive.

  1. Ston Walls: The walls of Ston, often referred to as the “Great Wall of Croatia,” were originally built in the 14th century to protect the valuable salt pans and the town. The walls are nearly 5.5 kilometers long, making them one of the longest fortifications in Europe. They connect Ston with Mali Ston, a smaller village famous for its oyster production.
