The Southern scenic route is a great drive at the far end of the south Island. There are several good web sites that gives step by step descriptions. We started in Dunedin (separate post) and did the entire drive, but this post will focus on the drive until Te Anau.
We started at Tunnel Beach which is just outside Dunedin. Here are a few pictures from the beach, but the full post is with Dunedin.

We came across this sign and bridge about an hour south of Dunedin in a town called Balclutha.

Along the drive to Kaka Point, we found a seal just playing on the side of the road. All by itself.

Nugget Lighthouse was a treat. Even in the mist and rain, the views were well worth the walk.

Slope Point is southern most part of the south island. Love the sign and a short windy walk to see it.

We hiked to several waterfalls along the way.

Bluff Point was a 30 minute drive from Invercagill, but we all wanted a picture of the sign. Was it worth it?

Clifton suspension bridge was a nice short stop.

Riverton

Tuatapere

Lake Manapouri & Te Anau

Animals are everywhere. We saw sheep and cows on almost every road.

And the Penguin Hut
