Chimborazo Volcano Ecuador

Our experience at Chimborazo volcano was nothing short of extraordinary. Despite the park being closed on the day of our visit, we were fortunate to have a special pass that allowed us entry. As the gate opened just for us, we found ourselves alone in the vast expanse of the park, accompanied only by our guide and driver.

Driving up to the highest parking area at nearly 16,000 feet, we embarked on a challenging hike towards the summit, reaching an elevation close to 17,000 feet. The thin air made every step a test of endurance, prompting us to proceed slowly, pausing every 100 yards to catch our breath, replenishing our energy with taffy and Gatorade.

The scenery was awe-inspiring, far surpassing what any photograph could convey. The snow-capped peaks, the rugged terrain, and the solitude of being the only visitors in such a majestic setting created a profound sense of adventure and accomplishment. It was undeniably one of the most memorable hikes we’ve ever undertaken, leaving us with lasting impressions of Chimborazo’s natural grandeur.
