The Rakaia Gorge Walkway is a scenic, easy-to-moderate walking track along the turquoise waters of the Rakaia River, about 45–60 minutes west of Christchurch. It’s one of the best short hikes in the Canterbury region for river views, cliffs, and native bush without big climbs.
The track follows the rim of the gorge with constant views down to the bright blue river, shaped by glacial silt from the Southern Alps.
