Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is a city rich in history, culture, and architectural beauty. Known as “The City of a Hundred Spires,” Prague offers a wide range of attractions and experiences for visitors.
Prague Castle: One of the largest castle complexes in the world, Prague Castle is home to the President of the Czech Republic and includes historical buildings such as St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, and the Golden Lane. We took segways up here and that was a good thing.
Charles Bridge: This iconic stone bridge, built in the 14th century, connects the Old Town and Lesser Town (Malá Strana). It is adorned with statues and offers stunning views of the Vltava River and the city.
Old Town Square: The heart of Prague’s historic center, featuring the famous Astronomical Clock, the Gothic Church of Our Lady before Týn, and the Baroque St. Nicholas Church.
Terezin
During WWII, the Nazis converted Terezín into a ghetto and concentration camp. It served as a transit camp for Jews who were then sent to extermination camps. The Small Fortress was used as a Gestapo prison. The site now serves as a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. It includes a museum, exhibitions, and memorial sites that educate visitors about the history of the ghetto and the experiences of its inhabitants. The visit here was very disturbing, but we felt a must. Never forget. Part of me hates posting pictures of this, but it is important that everyone understand the past to help prevent a repeat future.
