Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand

The Coromandel is one of New Zealand’s coastal getaways, known for wild beaches, native rainforest, and small laid-back towns. It’s about 2–2.5 hours by car from Auckland, making it a popular weekend or holiday escape.

We spent 2 days there and unfortunately had a lot of rain, which made it impossible to hike down to Cathedral Cove, but we did get there by boat. We also couldn’t get to hot water beach due to the rain and the tides.

We drove in throught Thames, a small town at the beginning of the peninsula.

We ate lunch in Whitianga, which is the main town to base in with Good restaurants, boat tours, access to Mercury Bay and nearby beaches.

Then we took a boat ride to Cathedral Cove which is one of New Zealand’s most photographed spots. Our first boat canceled, they said due to weather, but we found another company and jumped on that one.

The boat ride was great, we saw the cove and then went into a cave. The boat had a glass bottom so we were able to tons of fish.
