Capetown

Cape Town, situated on the southwestern coast of South Africa, is a city celebrated for its stunning natural landscapes, diverse culture, and rich history. Here’s a snapshot of what makes Cape Town a captivating destination. This is where we started our adventure in South Africa.

The city itself is beautiful. Mountains and beaches all over, great views everywhere. We stayed at the Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront: A bustling hub with shops, restaurants, and entertainment options.

  • Table Mountain: A prominent flat-topped mountain that offers panoramic views of the city, beaches, and surrounding ocean. It’s a must-visit for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Ever since I started reading Wilbur Smith, I felt a need to hike this mountain. It did not disappoint. We started in the dark before sunrise and saw the most amazing colors as the sun came up. We did take the gondola down. We did have a tour guide and used Hike Table Mountain, they were great. https://hiketablemountain.co.za/
  • Cape Point: Located in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, this rugged headland offers dramatic cliffs and breathtaking ocean views. This was a full day drive to see the Cape, the Penguins and some great sights along the way. We spent the day driving to the Cape of Good Hope with stops at Muizenberg.

Then Boulders Beach to see the Penguins.

Finally arrived at the Cape.

  • The next day we toured Bo-Kaap: Known for its colorful houses and Cape Malay culture, this historic neighborhood offers a glimpse into Cape Town’s multicultural heritage.

The city is surrounded by beaches and we took advantage of that.

  • Camps Bay: Known for its palm-fringed beach, trendy bars, and stunning sunsets.
  • Clifton Beaches: A series of four beaches known for their white sand and clear turquoise waters.

The next day we drank and drank and drank. We had a nice tour with www.winetour.co.za

Located just outside the city, renowned for world-class vineyards and wine estates offering tastings and scenic views. We did a day trip to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.

Cape Town’s blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and outdoor adventures makes it a destination that appeals to travelers seeking both relaxation and exploration. I think it is one of my 5 favorite cities. We spent 5 days there and it was not enough. We hope to get back.
