Aconcagua Argentina

Hiking to the first base camp on Aconcagua, known as Plaza de Mulas, is a popular trek for those not aiming for the summit but wanting to experience the mountain and its surroundings.

Aconcagua: The most famous mountain near Mendoza is Aconcagua, the highest peak in both the Southern and Western Hemispheres, standing at approximately 6,960 meters (22,837 feet) above sea level. Our goal was to hike to the first base camp, but our ride broke down and time at the mountain became an issue. We did hike most of the way there and from the pictures below, you will see this was beautiful. The altitude is an issue especially if you haven’t been this high. While the hike was not hard, the air is so thin, it makes the trek more difficult.
