There are scenic drives and then there is the Icefields Parkway — a 232-kilometer stretch of highway between Lake Louise and Jasper that we would confidently call the most beautiful road in the world. The drive alone, without a single stop, is enough to leave you speechless. But you will not make it far without pulling over, because around every bend there is something that demands your full attention — a glacier spilling down a mountainside, a turquoise lake so vivid it looks digitally enhanced, a waterfall crashing down a cliff face right beside the road, or a herd of elk grazing in a meadow like they own the place, which honestly they do. Along the way the stops stack up beautifully: Bow Lake, Peyto Lake, Mistaya Canyon, the Columbia Icefield, Sunwapta Falls, Athabasca Falls — each one worthy of its own visit, all of them strung together on a single road like the greatest hits album of the Canadian Rockies. Budget a full day minimum, bring more snacks than you think you need, keep your camera within reach at all times, and whatever you do — do not drive it at night. Every kilometer of this road is too good to miss.
