Jasper is a mountain town in Jasper National Park, about 290 km (180 miles) north of Banff. Compared with Banff, Jasper is generally quieter, less developed, and known for its expansive wilderness and excellent stargazing.

Some of the highlights nearby include
Maligne Lake – One of the park’s signature destinations, famous for its deep blue water and boat cruises to Spirit Island.
Athabasca Falls – A powerful waterfall that’s easily accessible from the road.
Maligne Canyon – A dramatic limestone gorge with bridges and hiking trails.
Jasper SkyTram – Takes visitors near the summit of Whistlers Mountain for panoramic Rocky Mountain views.
Miette Hot Springs – Relax in naturally heated mineral pools surrounded by mountains.

Mount Robson Provincial Park was outstanding, see the separate post.
