We started our South Island adventure by flying into Nelson. The views coming in are great.
The Harbor in Nelson is not big, but it is very pretty and we had a few meals overlooking the water.
The town has a few good walking streets with shops, bars, restaurants, etc…Nelson sits at the top of the South Island, tucked between Tasman Bay and mountains. It’s one of New Zealand’s sunniest cities and a favorite base for beaches, wineries, hiking, and national parks. Think small-town charm with big outdoor access.
