Arrowtown, New Zealand

Just 20 minutes from Queenstown, Arrowtown is a charming former gold-rush village with tree-lined streets, heritage cottages, and an easygoing small-town feel. It’s compact, scenic, and perfect for a relaxed half-day or overnight stop.

Arrowtown feels like stepping back into the 1860s gold era, but with great cafés, galleries, and boutique shops. It’s especially beautiful in autumn when the trees turn bright red and gold.

1) Explore Buckingham Street
The historic main street is full of preserved stone buildings, artisan shops, bakeries, and cozy restaurants. Great for strolling and browsing.

A short riverside walk leads to restored huts where Chinese miners lived during the gold rush. Informative and atmospheric, this is called the Arrowtown Chinese Settlement.
