Dunedin blends dramatic coastal scenery, Scottish heritage, wildlife, and a lively student-town vibe. It’s compact, easy to explore in 1 day, and makes a great base for the surrounding Otago coast.

The town is also known for the graffiti and there is some great art.

Dunedin Railway Station – Iconic Flemish Renaissance building and one of NZ’s most photographed landmarks. We ate dinner there as we found the only restaurant that appeared open past 7p.

Baldwin Street – One of the world’s steepest streets; quick, fun stop for photos.

Tunnel Beach – Steep but short walk to sea cliffs, arches, and wild ocean views. Beautiful views and nice hike, but the walk up can be a bit difficult.
