Lake Tepako, New Zealand

Lake Tekapo is one of the most beautiful stops in New Zealand’s South Island — famous for its unreal turquoise water, mountain views, and some of the clearest night skies on Earth. It’s small, relaxed, and perfect for 1 night.

The water is so blue due to Glacial “rock flour” from the surrounding Alps stays suspended in the water, reflecting sunlight and creating that bright milky-turquoise color.

The area is also known for Dark Skies. The Mt John observatory offers star gazing nightly depending on the weather.

The views from the Observatory during the day are vast and impressive.

We loved Lake Tepako, a must stop on the south island.
