Wellington is New Zealand’s capital city and sits at the southern tip of the North Island, wrapped around a beautiful natural harbor and surrounded by green hills. It’s compact, creative, and easy to explore on foot — often called the country’s cultural and culinary capital. Wellington, has more bars, cafes, and restaurants per capita than New York City. The city like much of New Zealand closes up early except on Friday and Saturday.

The city has about 215,000 people and is known for Beer, Coffee and Wind. There is also a large film industry here. We ended up with an extra day here due to the weather, but we enjoyed our time, the food, the people and the Breaker Bay Beach Hike the next day. The waterfront is beautiful with a lot of bars, restaurants and the Te Papa Museum.

We took the Wellington Cable Car up to Kelburn for the views and then walked down thru the gardens and cemetery.

The Te Papa museum was one of the best we have seen around the world. Well worth it and we got lucky as it rained once we got there. The Gallipoli exhibit was amazing.
