Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is one of Colorado’s most dramatic natural wonders. The Gunnison River has carved a remarkably deep, narrow canyon through dark Precambrian rock, creating sheer cliffs, rugged spires, and spectacular overlooks.

South Rim: Best for most visitors. Easier access, paved roads, a visitor center and numerous viewpoints.

East Portal: A steep, winding drive down toward the Gunnison River and dam area. It is a different experience from the rim overlooks; check road conditions and vehicle restrictions before going.

North Rim: Quieter and more remote, with excellent views and hiking. Access is seasonal, and facilities are limited.
